the Art of Clara Chapman the war years

Some sketches and background information.

The British comic strip was a morale booster for troops. Soldiers needed entertainment that would take there mind off the horrors of war and comic strips that favoured a positive can do racy heroine was top of the bill. Censor and outrage groups off course were in heavy opposition but these men were of course putting their life on the line and Churchill saw the merits of such a treasured form of amusement.

The Top Secret Adventures of Clara Chapman is an ode to such a genre. It is fun illustrating the comic strip and was great making the film. Link below.
